• Rock photographer Kirk Koster was born in Davenport, Iowa in 1956. Kirk’s photography captured the zeitgeist of 70’s and 80’s through the eyes of the fans and the music superstars of their time who went on to become icons.  Kirk’s love for music and photography and the incredible artists he was shooting. Kirk utilizing negative space and depth of field adjustments interacting with the staging and lighting immortalizing 70’s musical artists as they passed through the mid-west.  “Too much 'in focus”, in some photos answers too many questions. I like to leave the precise subject matter a matter of debate. Kirk’s unique approach and eye.

The brilliant mind melding and never to be seen again mid-west performances of Kiss, Rush, Fleetwood Mac, Frank Zappa, the Grateful Dead, Rory Gallagher, Little Feat, Aerosmith and other iconic artists at the height of their powers are immortalized by rock photographer Kirk Koster.  Shooting the artists he loved. From the first show Foghat, Eric Clapton at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds in Davenport, Iowa in 1975 rock culture scene Koster went on to build an archive of hundreds of artists and thousands of photographs documenting one of the most important eras in music and creating some of the most unbelievably immortal images of the greatest era of album rock.  Amazing songs, incredible artists, and performances.
